About CASA of Shawnee County, Inc.
Founded in 1986, CASA of Shawnee County is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that supports and promotes court-appointed advocacy for children and youth who have experienced abuse or neglect. Our mission is to help children who have experienced abuse and neglect children navigate the court system with a highly trained, dedicated volunteer advocate by their side, so they have the opportunity to find a safe, loving home where they can thrive. Each year, approximately 262 children enter foster care or become involved in Child in Need of Care cases in Shawnee County, highlighting the ongoing need for strong advocacy on behalf of local children.
Our Programs

Court Appointed Special Advocates
Court Appointed Special Advocates are trained volunteers who serve as a steadfast and compassionate voice for children involved in the court system due to abuse or neglect. Under the guidance of program staff, CASA volunteers advocate for each child’s best interests and work to help them find a safe, nurturing, and permanent home where they can thrive.

Citizen Review Board (CRB)
Established in 1995, the Citizen Review Board helps support the court by reviewing Child in Need of Care cases in the Third Judicial District. Through this program, trained community members help strengthen oversight and promote informed decision-making for children and families involved in the child welfare system.

Family Resource Room
The Family Resource Room provides support for children and families involved with the court system by helping meet practical needs and creating a more welcoming, child-focused environment. This program is designed to connect families with resources and support services that can help reduce barriers during an already difficult time.
